From very early times, evidence exists as rock carvings along the Nile terraces and in the oases. As far back as the 10th millennium BC, a culture of hunter-gatherers and fishers replaced a grain-grinding culture. Climate changes and/or overgrazing around 8000 BC began to desiccate the landscape, forming the Sahara. Early tribal peoples migrated to the Nile River where they developed a settled agricultural economy and more centralized society.
Pictures of Egypt come from two trips, one in June of 2000 and one in March of 2005. The first trip was short. I stayed in Cairo and made day trips from there. On second trip I stayed three weeks and paid special attention to the upper Nile with a side trip to the Sinai.
The second reference provides excellent maps and attached pictures of Egypt. I recommend it highly. I would have dearly loved to have the time to explore the various sites as they did. Limited time is the shortcoming of organized tours.
