Giza, the third largest city in Egypt(2.6 million in 2006) is very near Cairo. The Egyptian name is El Ahram ("the Pyramids"). There are three major pyramids Khufu (Cheops) 2585-2560 BC, Khafre (Chephren) 2555-2532 BC and Menkaure (Mycerinus) 2490-2472 BC. The Sphinx was built by Khafre. The Solar Barque is associated with Khufu. The city is interesting but the pyramids demanded my attention.
