Due to its well-preserved old town center, still partially enclosed by medieval walls, and a large number of monuments dating from various historical periods, including a Roman Temple, Évora is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its history dates back more than 2,000 years. It came under Roman rule in 57 BC, Under Moorish rule in 715 and under Portuguese rule in 1165. The temple dates from the first century. The Cathedral, Gothic, was built from 1230 - 1340.
