The village of Volpaia sits on a hilltop just north of the town of Radda in Chianti. Volpaia was built in the 11th century as a fortified village. Although only part of the original protective walls and two of its six towers are still standing, the medieval layout and buildings within the village are still intact. Volpaia is one of the best-preserved villages of its period. We had a tour of the village and an excellent dinner there. In addition to producing wine and olive oil, Volpaia has a cooking school and tourist facility. They have been very careful to retain the style of the original village.
