The presiding deity here is a manifestation of Lord Vishnu, Lakshmi Narayan.  The walls of the temple are decorated with Hindu symbols and quotes from the Gita and the Upanishads.  This temple was built between 1933 and 1939.  It was inaugurated by Mahatma Gandhi on the condition that people of all castes especially untouchables would be allowed in.  It was built by the Birla family of industrialists. The Birla family also built a small Buddhist Temple next door.
