Ras Safsafa (crs)

We were here to visit St. Catherine's Monastery and Mount Sinai which is behind Ras Safsafa. As explained earlier, unknowingly I was very anemic at the time and was having trouble breathing at that altitude so I remained in Catherine Plaza for the evening and following morning. They would not let me stray from the hotel grounds because of the threat of terrorists, My group went to the monastery late in the afternoon but had to walk a fair amount to get there. On the following morning most of the group got up at 1am in order to take a bus to the monastery, then take a camel part way up the mountain and then climb approximately 750 rock hewn steps to the top of the Mount Sinai to see the sun rise. As I remember, only several made it. I went back to sleep. The rooms were primitive but serviceable.
