A small village on the right bank of the River Seine, it is famous as the home of the French painter Claude Monet.  Monet bought the home and land in 1890 and lived there until his death in 1926.  He created extensive gardens and the pond which were the source of some of his most famous paintings.  The village dates from Neolithic times.
