Amboise is a medieval town sitting on the south bank of the Loire.  It has two points of interest.  First the Château d’Amboise rises above the river Loire and dominates the town.  The château’s original 15th century entrance the Tour des Minimes is famous for its massive spiral ramp.  The wing that overlooks the river is Gothic.  Charles VIII was born and died here.  Second Leonardo da Vinci lived the last years of his life here at Le Clos-Lucé.  He is buried in a chapel, Chapelle St-Hubert, near the Château.

I visited Amboise with family on the way to my daughter's wedding in 2004.  It was a very pleasant place to stop.  Unfortunately, we did not have to visit Clos-Luce, Da Vinci's home.
